P6.configure a computer system to meet user needs   For P6, learners must configure some basic system settings, such as left and right mouse buttons, powersaving options, screen resolution, desktop theme, font size, default language setting, default folder locations etc.

Machine and Peripheral Management	The main way of controlling and managing peripherals on windows is by using the control panel. You can manage things like speakers and headphones as well as you mouse and keyboard settings, you can edit how they look and work.	On macs, they use the system preferences panel which is just like the control panel on widows as you can edit all of you peripherals.
Security	Windows uses various different ways of making your computer secure. The most basic of these would be password protection on user accounts which blocks people out of your account on your PC. Windows also has a back-up system which you can store you files on a blank disk or a type of external hard-drive. Windows PCs also have a built in firewall which is used to block unwanted programs, viruses etc. which may harm your computer and your files. Another security feature which you can have is an anti-virus which can be installed separately, this is used to remove any viruses and malware which may have passed your firewall, an anti-virus scans your whole computer to find and remove these.	The Mac operating system uses a backup system called Time Machine which is built in to macs and you can regularly back up the whole system on to an external hard drive and by using Time Machine it makes it a lot easier to back up files when you add an external hard drive. Another feature for macs is that it checks for updates for you as soon as they can be installed because older software is easier to hack into and steal data from. Keychain is a built-in password manager where you can store all of your passwords and information. Another feature is gatekeeper which is similar to a firewall, it will block anything that is harmful to your mac that is trying to get in, this could be from a website or a program which you may of downloaded.
File Management	Windows uses a process called explorer.exe; this controls how you view files. When viewing files in windows there is many options to sort and view each files. These options include the date the file was last modified on, the type of file and the size of the file.	One of the viewing options that are exclusive to macs is called Cover Flow; This allows you to view a large thumbnail of the file you are looking for before you open it. The dock on Mac is like the taskbar on a PC, but it is also easier to find and edit files and programs on the dock as well as being able to open a smaller version of the finder which is the Macs file system. Finder may not have as many viewing options but is much clearer and simpler to use as you are able to move files and folders freely and increase and decrease the size with a simple slider to how you want.
Device Drivers	When using windows and plug in a new device, for most devices windows will automatically install drivers for devices like USBs, computer mice and keyboards. But you may have to manually install drivers for parts like Graphics cards.	When using a Mac device you wont need to install a driver as they will be already be installed. but if you were to use something that wasn't a mac device, a driver would have to be installed separately.
Support for Connectivity of Portable Media	Macs support their own portable media devices in a program called iTunes. iTunes is program that can be used to store your media from you iPhone, iPod and other apple devices and then can be used to transfer the media files. Other phones and types of hard drives can be used to transfer media but don't use iTunes.	The windows OS supports all types of portable media as long as it connects by a USB port. Once windows has installed a driver, the portable media device can be used to transfer media or manage the device.

After making a successful start in your role as an IT trainer for the IT Support Department of RS Components, you have been have been asked to prepare training material of a more advanced and practical kind. P5 set up a standalone computer system, installing hardware and software components [SM3]   For P5, learners must install at least one hardware and one software component in a stand-alone system. This is best evidenced with a witness statement or observation record and screen shots. Learners must use suitable safety equipment/tools and pay due regard to health and safety issues.
How the activity meets the requirements of the assessment and grading criteria, including how and where the activity took place
Paul found each of the ports for the monitor, keyboard and mouse then plugged them in. He then found where the graphics card is located in the computer, installed MS Office and MS Security essentials. Paul then created a user account and configured the system software, application software and documents.
